Just returned from a wonderful six day retreat at Cloona. The combination of the programme, fresh air, spring water, brisk walks, yoga, reflexology, deep tissue massages, delicious organic food, freedom from electronic devices has left me feeling extremely relaxed and with a sense of deep peace. Thank you, Daragh for creating such a wonderful Shangri-La right here in the west of Ireland. You can definitely add me to your list of loyal, very satisfied and returning Cloona-ites! Looking forward to coming back.....

I did the six-day weight-loss and lost 5 lbs in total. But more than that I can feel that I've lost inches which I hope to keep off for the rest of the year. The week is challenging but very rewarding. It's amazing how quickly I settled into the routine of early to bed and early to rise, fruit dinners and 6 pints of water a day...the group and Dhara's expert guidance helped to get me through. Not to mention the fact that I rarely felt real hunger as the food is so nutritious. I am incorporating a lot of what I learned into my diet and hope to be back again to Cloona in the future. Highly recommended.

I had a wonderful 5 days at Cloona and emerged feeling re-energised and lighter mentally and physically although the programme was not specifically a weight-loss programme. The fellow guests were a tonic in themselves but the combination of the locale, the regimen and the self-imposed isolation from radio, TV, mobile phones and other outside distractions made this a refreshing retreat for the body and soul. Amazingly you don't feel hungry despite the shocking change in diet (wheatgrass shots, plates of fruit morning and evening, one juice day etc. I was inspired to make subtle changes to my lifestyle and am still feeling the beneficial effects of Cloona 2 months on.

I have just returned form my first visit to Cloona. I did the five day detox programme as I was feeling tired and sluggish and having difficulty motivating myself to do anything about it. After the five days I had lost 5 pounds and kick started an exercise regime that I have maintained since returning home. The Yoga classes were wonderful and a lower back problem has been much improved as a result of them. I went to Cloona because the reviews on this site were so positive so it is wonderful to be now adding my own 100% endorsement of the experience that is Cloona. Catriona, Isabelle, Rose and all the therapists were first class and I now hope to make Cloona an annual event in my calendar.

I spent five days in Cloona Health Retreat in July of this year. I felt very relaxed and calm there despite being out of my normal comfort zone. The Yoga classes were really fantastic and the nightly massages were wonderful and very professional.
I was pleasantly surprised by Dhara's level of commitment to and interaction with the guests, he was genuinely interested in sharing his knowledge to help us. I learned a lot about nutrition, rest and exercise while I was at Cloona but the big bonus of my stay was that I stopped smoking and lost 5 lbs. Fantastic!

If you want to get away from the noise, hassles and stress of everyday life then I would recommend Cloona as the perfect place to go. I really enjoyed my week stay there, from the organic food and their own spring water to the yoga and treatments (massage, reflexology, Shiatsu and facials). I left feeling destressed, calmer, and with renewed energy. I would also recommend climbing the hill opposite the main house, the views are breath-taking and there is a place to sit and chill out, with only Buddha as your companion. I haven't got one bad word to say about Cloona, it is a very special place indeed.

You don't know what you are missing if you haven't experienced Cloona. I have been quite a number of times since 1995 and it just keeps getting better and better. Dhara has created a wonderful programme in a very spiritual place. My past three years have been at the advanced / continuation programme and while certainly demanding is a wonderful challenging experience. The combination of the detox diet / juicing and wheat grass juice leaves your system as clean as a whistle, the walks and yoga are rejuvenating. But mostly for me, it is about leaving the chaotic world behind for a week to recharge your batteries fully and re-prioritise the demands of daily life.. and losing a good few lbs is quite nice as well.. Hi Folks, I'm just back after a wonderful five day retreat in Cloona Health Retreat. I must say I had reservations about attending because I was the only man on site but the ladies never made me feel uncomfortable in any way. Dhara's words to 'hang in there' were met with new courage as each day passed by. I enjoyed the presence and company of all my 'spiritual sisters' and we supported and encouraged each other along the way. I particularly enjoyed the casual 'Round Table' chats after a walk and I learned so much in the course of these 'life' conversations. One might think that the primary focus in Cloona is a pre-occupation with food but I felt such a freeing-up feeling across the whole spectrum of experience - a wonderful lightness of being. The program was excellent in every way and finely tuned and honed after years of experience. As Arnold Schwarzenneger said: I'll be back!

I have been at Cloona twice before and loved it but this time it was even better. The morning routine now includes a wheatgrass shot which is invigorating even though it's an acquired taste. The diet most of the time is citrus fruit in the morning, delicious soup and salads at lunchtime and a tasty fruit plate in the evenings. Everything is organic. On Wednesdays there is a juice fast which seems daunting but is actually quite pleasant and incredibly energising. There is an option to do a yoga cleanse with Catriona beforehand - I would recommend this as it really adds to the benefits of the juice day.
The yoga was excellent, Caitriona catered for all levels and adapted some moves to suit the less supple. The therapists are all excellent - massage, seiki, reflexology and facials are all available. Now I'm running out of space so check out the Cloona website for yourself!

I went for my fourth visit to Cloona at the end of May. I had shingles in February and this left my energy levels very low. The combination of food, yoga, exercise and relaxation renewed my energy and I enjoyed the beautiful scenic walks. I met a lovely group of women (11 is the max). I went with a friend but this is the perfect solo break. The location is ideal for distressing and getting away from it all. It is not a Spa but a retreat. No television, radio or newspapers. The mind is detoxed as well as the body. Look up the Cloona website for a full programme.
I returned 5 lbs lighter which I have kept off + two more because the benefits were so great I have continued to eat healthily. I have just had my cholesterol checked and it is down from 7.5 (with medication) to 3.6
I will be returning again next year. It was just the tonic I needed.

The simplicity of the programme is remarkable, and the resulting feeling of well-being is quite difficult to explain, but very evident in a rejuvenated body and soul. I would highly recommend a visit (it was my fourth time there). It is definitely my dream holiday, and sets you up with great energy and positively. There is great generosity and expertise from each of the wonderful therapists (thank you Ger, and thank you Donal!). Dhara provides incredible food and a really generous sharing of his knowledge and expertise. There is a wonderful integrity about everything. It is also a beautiful place in a beautiful setting. It is what I consider to be the best value holiday - a real treat. Oh, and it's actually a lot of fun.

The verdent setting and surrounding atmosphere of Croke Patrick and Clew Bay combined with the knowledge of Dhara and the Cloona team ensure that you return to your world healthier and fitter. You can approach many challenges with a relaxed smile remembering the important aspects of life learnt at Cloona. The programme in Cloona has evolved over time. My visits to Cloona are now in double digits and I have never experienced a visit that was less than excellent.

The card on the back of my bedroom door in Cloona hoped that I would leave refreshed and invigorated by my stay. I did. I am delighted that I took the risk and challenge of booking two weeks back-to-back. This double dose of Cloona's programme has set me on my feet again. Over the two weeks I found myself increasingly able for the walks and the yoga session, the latter being expertly graded to suit all levels of ability. Never did salads and soups taste so good. In addition, the peace of being without newspaper or TV and no mobiles in the house was a great bonus.
The fact that both weeks, over three-quarters of the participants were on at least their second visit to Cloona, speaks volumes about what it can offer. Many thanks to Dhara and a great team and I look forward to returning next year.

It is hard to describe the real Cloona, as it is such a special place, in a beautiful setting.
The programme of daily walks, yoga, sauna and massages is the perfect mixture for those that seek fitness of body and mind. The healthy organic food - deliciously tasty soups, salads and juices, is balanced diet to quench thirst and hunger while leading to a lightness of the body and even weight loss. Awareness of the body, taught in the daily walk and yoga sessions, results in reducing tensions and strains. The calmness of the old building and tranquility of the surrounding nature are mirrored in the courteous, supportive and non-invasive approach of the Cloona team – highly knowledgeable with respect to all matters of healthy nourishment and movement.
My stay in Cloona has been immensely valuable for me, and I have no hesitation to highly recommend a week ‘out of this world’. It is the best place to go if you are looking to find strength to better cope with stress and strain of daily life, or if you simply want to become fitter and / or kick start a weight loosing process.

I've been going to Cloona for 3 years, a couple of times a year. It's light years away from London where I live and work. As soon as I step off the plane at Knock, with taxi driver and family friend Vincent there to greet me, I feel like I've stepped into another, more tranquil world. Far from the grand houses in which British spas are often located, Cloona is simple, old-fashioned even. In recent years there have been variations on the tried-and-tested programme of yoga, countryside / beach walks, massages, saunas and a vegan diet, with weight loss and advanced featured, but the basic principles are always adhered to. On my last visit I tried the liver flush, which produced such large amounts of 'gunk' - small stone-sized green lumps - that I resolved never to over-indulge again (I have, but I'm human - and that's what Cloona is there for!). I think it may be time for another visit!

The centre itself is in an old converted mill in a secluded, tranquil, woodland setting. A short walk and there are wonderful scenic views of sea and countryside. An ideal setting if you want to get away from it all and refresh, for whatever reason. Long walks through this landscape are part of the Health programme of Cloona, as are the fruit and vegetable diet, a variety of natural healing therapies, evening massage and sauna and a two hour morning yoga/meditation programme. An inner cleansing is also offered within the Yoga Programme on the five/six day retreat. You will not find a newspaper, radio or a television set in the centre. It is even recommended that mobiles be turned off. (Think about it!) Six days spent in Cloona Health Retreat and I returned home feeling refreshed, detoxed and restored - both mentally and physically.

The food was delicious and I never felt hungry which may sound strange but its true. I was accommodated in one of the newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms. The room was tastefully decorated and the bed was really comfortable.
There were 2 juice days and we were all really looking forward to Friday to be able to enjoy the delicious soup for lunch. The terrain around the house is lovely and we did a different walk every day. The walks were challenging for me as I was not used to walking on hilly terrain but well worth the effort. I hadn't been in a few years and returning is always a treat. So this time, I did the 6-day special weight loss programme. It was my first time to experience a juice day and on this programme there were 2 so I really felt the benefits. I lost 7 lbs, which was great but more importantly I came back to the real world, renewed, refreshed and motivated to continue with a healthier lifestyle.
The centre is ideally situated for beautiful views on the walks and a lousy signal on the mobile phone. All the more reason to switch it off and really detox from work / stress etc. Allowing oneself the luxury of checking out of the usual day to day running around and stress adds to the week. True me time and a great way to catch up with yourself !

I had my 4th visit to The Clonna Health Retreat last week and it was even better than ever before. I was completely wound up before going and came away after five days totally relaxed and at ease. I loved every bit of the experience. Beautiful fresh food prepared to 5 star hotel standards and even better. The yoga was delightful. The massages and all the treatments were so good. I cannot say enough to express my satisfaction with my whole week. I could go on but I would be writing all night. Thank you to all the wonderful staff, for, which was for me a really wonderful break. I shall be back for more. Mai.

Must-have relaxation of mind and body

The Cloona Health Retreat’s owner uses the word 'gentle' a lot in his initial talk about how the programme works. The five days (Sun-Fri) bring a gentle return to that place we now call 'wellness'. The gentle yoga, the gentle walks and the somewhat less gentle massage combine, with the delicious healthy food (especially the soups), to bring everyone back to their normal selves. Whilst the centre could never be described as luxurious, the clean lines and spotless rooms add to the serenity of the setting. Bring an open mind and a few good books - and enjoy some 'me time'. Your family and friends will thank you for it. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

I found Cloona to be a reinvigorating experience for mind and body. Experiencing exhaustion with little time to take off work, the five day programme provided me with everything I needed to regain energy, strength and an overall feeling of wellbeing. Cloona is located in one of the most spectacularly beautiful parts of Ireland, lending emphasis to the perception of escape from work and worry. Daily yoga was undoubtedly the highlight for me and Caitriona is an excellent instructor who has inspired me to keep it up...... at least this far. Dhara and all the staff pay every attention to detail; they are informative, friendly and always supportive. Perhaps most importantly in the current climate, Cloona is not overpriced but very affordable and excellent value for money. I will recommend Cloona to family and friends and will also return myself.

I visited The Cloona Health Retreat for a 5 day retreat to try and stop smoking. It was absolutely fantastic, not only did I quit smoking while I was there but continue to be a non smoker because of Cloona. I met some wonderful people at the retreat some of who have been returning to Cloona for the past 12 years, that’s a testimonial indeed. The soup and salads were truly delicious. Daily yoga, walking, sauna and massages brought about a beautiful mind and body calming. I came home a new person. I have booked to go again in September.

Cloona - The perfect place to unwind

I visited Cloona for the first time in early March 2010, and the experience of the 5-day program made quite an impression on me. Surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Co. Mayo, it is the perfect place to retreat to if you wish to get real rest and relaxation. The program, run so carefully and personally by Dhara, is a lovely balance of activities and relaxation. Each day falls into an easy rhythm, and I found myself slipping into a more relaxed mood and truly leaving behind the outside world (helped by the lack of radio, tv, internet, mobiles – which was surprisingly wonderful). The food is fresh, tasty and surprisingly filling. If only I could re-create those yummy soups and salads at home! The daily wheatgrass shot is an acquired taste, but worth the effort. I had wondered how almost 2 hours of yoga each morning would suit me (being a complete yoga novice), but it proved to be one of the best elements of the week for me – challenging, yet relaxing. Caitriona (the instructor) is unique; she has an infectious enthusiasm, she appreciated each of our capabilities and delivered each session in a wonderfully warm and friendly manner. I really enjoyed the afternoon walks, definitely helped by the beautiful weather. It was refreshing to walk a different route each day, at my own pace. The other nine people were a joy. It was incredible that 10 strangers could be thrown together for five days and get on so well. I suppose the common purpose of taking time out provided a bond. However, there was never any pressure to stay with the group, and I enjoyed the many opportunities to have time to myself. I’m glad I took the advice from the Cloona website to go to Cloona on my own. It really is the only way…it is one place where bringing a friend would only hinder the rest and relaxation! Don’t even think about bringing a spouse!! The sauna and massage each evening was the most wonderful way to end each day. Thanks Pauline for the massages and the tips for relaxing my back!! I returned home feeling totally rested and relaxed, yet energised; more toned and fit than before, and full of good intentions to be fitter and healthier and to only eat when I’m really hungry!! Only time will tell if I succeed!

Just retuned from my 10th visit to Cloona and it just gets better and better. The personal space afforded by Cloona and that beauty of the world really rejuvenates body and soul. The treatments provided by the dedicated and skilled therapists enhance the feeling of wellbeing and never fail to work. The quality soups salads and fruits are bursting with flavour and nutrients. The Lagoo treatment and juice day brought clarity of mind and a feeling of lightness. It really is an unparallel programmed watched over with dedication and integrity by Dhara and staff.
