By , February 20, 2015

Starving yourself and obsessively exercising is not the best way to lose weight fast, instead eat a healthy balanced diet, do a reasonable amount of exercise and incorporate these fat burning foods into your diet.

  • Grapefruit

The integrity of grapefruit’s fat-burning abilities has been questioned, but there have also been very successful reports of people losing 10 pounds in 10 days on a diet plan consisting of healthy, low-fat foods and fresh grapefruit.

Eating a grapefruit right before your meal means you feel full, leaving you less likely to fill up on fatty foods. It’s also claimed that grapefruit contains enzymes which will help burn off fat when eaten before certain foods.

  • Green Tea

Green tea is famous for it’s fat-burning properties. It contains powerful antioxidants called catechins which increase the rate at which your liver burns fat.

Green tea also increases the amount of calories you burn while you exercise, but even for those who don’t work out, green tea will still boost your metabolism making it the perfect fat-burning food.

  • Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a total superfood. High in fibre, protein and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids but low in calories, chia seeds are one of the most beneficial fat-burning foods you can eat.

Aside from kickstarting your metabolism and suppressing your appetite, they basically get glucagon going which is one of the body’s top fat-burning hormones.

  • Nuts

Studies conducted in Harvard have found that people who eat 3 ounces of nuts daily lose one inch of fat from their waist per month and tend to keep weight off for longer.

Brazil nuts in particular aid your metabolism by converting the thyroid hormone to its active form and binding toxins that otherwise convert to fat and cause cellulite.

Walnuts contain a great source of omega-3 fats which are heart-healthy and a small amount will appease your appetite. Of course, avoid any salted or coated nuts.

  • Avocado

Avocados are packed with antioxidants and healthy Omega-9 fatty acids which not only speed up the conversion of fat into energy, they boost metabolism and did we mention how delicious guacamole is? One of the tastiest fat-burning foods on the list!

  • Cinnamon

Cinnamon increases our insulin levels which in turn helps our bodies to break down glucose effectively rather than just converting sugars straight to fat, which in turn reduces fat levels and promotes weight loss.

Certain studies have also shown that stubborn belly fat is more responsive to cinnamon than other parts of the body. At least ¾ of a teaspoon is required daily to reap the rewards.
